Platte Valley Middle School

In 2024, RB+B completed a master plan for Platte Valley Schools (PVS) to evaluate and plan remedies for the District’s ongoing facility needs. The main project involved in the master plan was for a new, replacement Middle School in addition to a District Central Administrative facility, districtwide deferred maintenance projects, and expanded preschool offerings.

The new middle school will help to create a P-12 campus for Platte Valley, replacing the existing building on the same site, just north of the existing footprint. The new building creates an edge to the north, and a campus quad to the south with ample green space. An exterior promenade will connect the high school and athletics stadium to the east, continuing westward past the middle school and on to the elementary school. The Central Admin facility anchors the southwest corner of the site.

LOCATION: Kersey, CO
CLIENT: Platte Valley School District
SCOPE: 125,000 SF Replacement School
COST: $68.2 Million
COMPLETED: Estimated 2026

The middle school, designed for 450 students, allows ample space for growth beyond the 300 students currently served. Three main concepts make up the design parti:

  • A large, two-story volume which creates a grand hallway within the building;
  • A learning park and associated second floor balconies; and
  • A CTE space and associated CTE yard.

Many elements included in the design extend beyond a typical middle school as the existing middle school formerly served as the district’s high school before RB+B replaced it in the early 2000s. A new gym, fieldhouse, athletics, and wrestling space are also included to accommodate the community’s rodeo in the summer.
