Owner of the office dog, “Cooper”, Corky has nearly 40 years of experience in project management, programming, and design for both public and private clients. He has led many of RB+B’s sustainable projects including LEED Gold Red Hawk Elementary School, LEED Gold Bethke Elementary School, LEED Silver Fossil Ridge High School, and the LEED Platinum Army National Guard’s Windsor Readiness Center.

Corky has spoken at numerous seminars discussing high performance design and was a member of the Governor’s Energy Office committee writing the Colorado Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CO-CHPS) criteria for schools.

In his spare time, Corky enjoys traveling. He received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1975 from Cal Poly University.

Rebecca Spears, AIA, LEED AP,
Principal

A devoted mountain biker and snowboarder, Rebecca brings a wealth of experience to the projects she designs and manages. She enjoys working with diverse client groups and building consensus through design solutions. In the office, Rebecca facilitates Design Chats and Knowledge Shares to encourage ongoing creative dialogue and continued education among her peers at RB+B. [...]

Rebecca’s recent projects include the new Jewish Community Center in Boulder, Odell Brewing Company’s two latest expansions, Daredevil Brewing, and remodels to the Greeley Infusion Center and the Loveland Oncology and Hematology Center, both for University of Colorado Health. Rebecca is both a past President of the Colorado North Chapter of the AIA and past Secretary of the Colorado Chapter of the AIA. She also volunteers in the community and is on the Board of Directors with the Engle Family Foundation.

Rebecca received her Master of Architecture in 1989 from Iowa State University.

David Kress, AIA, LEED AP, A4LE,
Principal

David joined the firm in 1991 and became a Principal in 2003. He enjoys facilitating design advisory group meetings and engaging clients and community members in the programming process. David’s past projects include Fort Collins’ Mawson Block Mixed Use Development, Summit Elementary in Casper, Wyoming, as well as the Vista Peak P-8 Exploratory School in Aurora. [...]

Outside the office, David enjoys competitive Hobie Cat sailing and furniture design. He received his Master of Architecture in 1991 from the University of California Los Angeles and his Bachelor of Architecture from the University of New Mexico.

 

Matt Arabasz, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, A4LE,
Senior Associate

A skilled project manager and outdoor enthusiast, Matt has managed many of the firm's larger projects and has experience managing projects up to $86 million in construction value. Typically involved throughout the design process from initial planning and charrette activities through documentation and construction, he is particularly adept at addressing technical aspects of projects and leading large groups of consultants. A skilled project manager and outdoor enthusiast, Matt has managed many of the firm’s larger projects and has experience managing projects up to $86 million in construction value.  Typically involved throughout the design process from initial planning and charrette activities through documentation and construction, he is particularly adept at addressing technical aspects of projects and leading large groups of consultants.

Matt has been involved in several high performance projects, including LEED silver and platinum projects.  One particular project, Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School, outperforms roughly 98% of all LEED Certified Buildings in the nation in energy use.

When he’s not shuttling his two young boys to athletic events, Matt’s interests outside the office include motorcycling, hiking, mountain biking, and snowboarding.  He received his Master of Architecture in 1997 from the University of Utah.

Gopal Shrestha, AIA, LEED AP,
Director of Design

Gopal joined RB+B in 1996 and his strong design ability has resulted in AIA North Chapter Design Honor Awards for projects like Westfield Park Pavilion, Fossil Creek Park Pavilion and Kinard Core Knowledge Middle School in Fort Collins. Gopal has been a significant part of the success of many recent RB+B projects including LEED Gold Red Hawk Elementary School, LEED Platinum Casey Middle School, Kelly Walsh High School and the new Boulder Jewish Community Center. Beginning with a strong concept, Gopal’s ideals infiltrate every detail of his projects. As Director of Design he guides each of our project teams into a unified pursuit of design excellence, through collaborative design discussions. Gopal received his Bachelor of Architecture in 1994 from Drury University.

 

Derek Young, AIA, LEED AP,
Senior Associate

Derek joined RB+B in 2000 and has been a project manager for several of RB+B’s high performance projects including, most notably, the Windsor Readiness Center, which became the first LEED Platinum facility in the United States for the Army National Guard. He also managed Casey Middle School (LEED Platinum, Boulder) and Hanna Elementary School (Hanna, WY). Derek currently leads the design team’s construction administration for the Weld 6 School District’s Prairie Heights Middle School in Evans, CO. [...]

Brianne Smith, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, A4LE,
Senior Associate

Brianne joined RB+B in 2007 and is an involved Project Manager for RB+B’s K-12 work. Most recently, she completed Conservatory Green ECE-8 School (Denver) and she is currently overseeing construction on Journey Elementary School (Casper, WY). She also managed the Quality Control review process and LEED Certification for the Boulder Jewish Community Center and was instrumental to the success of the Colorado State University Research Foundation's OnlinePlus facility (Fort Collins) and Lincoln Elementary School (LEED Gold, Gering, NE). Brianne currently leads RB+B’s internal Drawing Standards team as well as the firm’s Post Occupancy Evaluation research program. [...]

Brianne received her Bachelor of Architecture in 2005 from Ball State University (Muncie, IN) and is a licensed Architect in both Colorado and Wyoming. She is a member of the Association 4 Learning Environments and the American Institute of Architects, and is currently a classroom volunteer in the Thompson School District.  She has previously served in various Board positions with the Northern Colorado Branch of the USGBC and is a 2013 recipient of the Northern Colorado Forty under 40 Award. Brianne has been a speaker on educational design and sustainability at various conferences—both regionally and nationally—including the A4LE National Conference, USGBC Colorado Green Schools Summit, and the Rocky Mountain ASHRAE Technical Conference.
